Good day Preven,

Thank you for taking time to raise your concerns with MTN.

Kindly accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

MTN did not advertise or communicate a dual sim function to consumers. Then second slot cannot be activated.

MTN does not disable the dual SIM functionality on any smart phone, rather, the company only purchases 4G devices that offer single SIM functionality. The reason why the company has chosen not to support dual SIM functionality in our 4G devices relates to the extent to which MTN subsidises 4G smart phones. We choose to subsidise smart phones to make these costly devices more accessible to the public and we spend over R1 billion a year on these handset subsidies, which is why we choose not to sell dual SIM handsets. Our customers are, however, still able to change SIM cards on any of the smartphones as and when needed.

Device subsidies help bridge the digital divide in many ways. Through these subsidies, we help connect customers to broadband who would otherwise not have been connected and through this, we lower the means to communicate for many of our subscribers.

Kind Regards,

Best regards,
