Ongoing lack of interest

Why is it that every single interaction with any cellphone company turns into a nightmare?
I went into your Cresta store earlier this week looking for an upgrade. Only reason I decided to stick with MTN, after all your recent network problems, was so that I didn't have to port my number or get a new sim card.

As it turns out, the new phone takes a smaller sim card, so your Cresta staff member said he would do a sim swap, and that the old sim card in the old phone would just stop working when the new one activated. Whether this is correct or not, this is what I was told by an MTN staff member. This was yesterday, more than 24 hours ago.

Both phones were off most of yesterday, and last night, waiting for the sim swap to happen.

This morning, I switched on the phones, and the old sim card was still active. I am expecting an important phone call today, so obviously I can't sit around all day without a phone.

Just before noon today, I received an sms stating that the sim swap had been cancelled.

I called your customer care department, and was assured that the sim swap had gone through. I just had to switch off both phones and let the new sim card activate itself.

I have been doing that for the past 90 minutes. The old sim card has been removed from the old phone. I inserted a new prepaid sim card into the old phone, then received a message stating that your system is having problems and you can't give me any airtime on the new sim card. So I am now completely cut off from the world, except for my laptop which is luckily running on a Cell C sim card.

Please explain EXACTLY what needs to be done to get my new phone working within the next hour. No more guessing. No more playing games with people's lives.

Really, people, in this day and age, this process should not be this complicated.

If MTN leaves me without a working phone over the weekend, I will be cancelling every MTN number/contract I have, demanding a full refund of all costs involved plus legal charges to recover them, blackening your name all over social media, and moving back to Vodacom or Cell C.

I look forward to an urgent response.

Thank you.

Reviewer Update

Not good enough, Kevin. I had to go to your Cresta branch 3 times to get a working cellphone. Each time cost me petrol and parking money. I made three phone calls, to the Cresta branch and to your so-called customer service people. And I spent probably 8 hours of my life trying to do your job and make this sim card work. Your sincere apologies are not nearly good enough. I did nothing wrong, I pay my account every month via debit order, never withholding payment, yet I am now out of pocket. MTN has useless staff and inefficient systems that keep going down, cutting me off from the world, yet you keep all the profits. This can't be right. A SINCERE apology would include MTN reaching into their pocket and giving me something to make up for the CRISIS that I experienced over the past couple of days. Way bigger than an inconvenience. How about doubling my data for the next 24 months as a way of really showing how sorry you are? And doing the same for everyone else who experienced a similar crisis through no fault of their own?
