NUMBER GIVEN TO SOMEONE ELSE

My boyfriend works abroad, he has a South African MTN number which he uses when he is in S.A. This is also linked to all of his bank accounts e-mails etc. He has been using this number for 1.5 years now. Yesterday his profile picture changed on Whats app. When I called his number, another guy answered. I asked where he had got this number. He said he had bought a sim card at PEP that day and this was the number given to him. Obviously outraged, as he is now receiving all of our banking sms's etc, I called MTN. Their response to me that this number was recycled as it was not used for 3 months. This is BULL. He uses it daily for banking etc. Yes he is out of the country for 6 months at a time but the sim is in a working phone. And why was it then not recycled a long time ago. MTN is now disclosing my private and confidential information to some random stranger.

Good day Dalene  Thank you for taking my call.  As per our telephone conversation this number has been disconnected and re-cycled due to access for life., which means if you do not make a chargeable call from a prepaid  sim card within 90days the number is recycled.  To keep a prepaid number active for more than 90days, you need to use access for life extender, listed below.  MTN – Access4Life Extender MTN offers a service for those who need to leave a SIM dormant for long periods, called MTN Access4Life. MTN recycles numbers after 90 days of no activity, sending a warning SMS message after 30 days of inactivity, and again at 85 days. “If you wish to not use your SIM card for a certain period, then you may extend the MTN Access4Life period by paying R20 and add an additional 90 days to the life span of the SIM card. The service is available by calling 141/135. The service will continuously deduct R20 from your airtime balance for every 90 days that elapses while the service is active. If you do not have enough airtime to enable the MTN Access4Life extender, the service will automatically be cancelled.

Warm regards
Roanne
