Not willing to assist a customer. Just pass it on!

I was employed and had a MTN contract. I was retrenched before the contract expired and send MTN my retrenchment letters from a store to close account seeing that i was retrenched. Now 6 years later I received calls and sms's from attorneys saying I owe MTN R46 000 + . When try to contact anyone to try and assist me at MTN they just pass me from one person to the next. Finally they tell me the cant help me I need to contact the attorneys but all I get from them is the amount and how and when I will make payment.
No one cares about the facts and just want to get the money.
I'm willing to pay for the handset amount that was outstanding but not R46000.00 + for something I never used or airtime never used.
After 48 min holding on to their legal department I got cut off and had to redial.
This is not the way to treat a customer and after being unemployed for 14 months that account wasnt used in the period as it was suspended immediatly due to non payement.

CAN ANYONE THAT CAN MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION CONTACT ME REGARDING THIS MATTER. I WANT TO CLOSE THIS ACCOUNT BUT WILL FOR SURE NOT PAY THAT OUTSTANDING AMOUNT THEY WANT ME TO JUST PAY WITHIN 7 DAYS
