No response from MTN
I am extremely frustrated with the poor service and billing issues I’ve experienced with MTN.
After submitting a formal complaint about not receiving the 20 Mbps internet service I was paying for, MTN confirmed in writing that I could cancel my contract "without any penalty fees". However, shortly after this, I received an invoice charging me "R3345.96 in penalty fees", which directly contradicts their agreement.
I contacted MTN, and they told me the matter would be escalated, with feedback within 2–24 hours. I have received no response.
To make matters worse, MTN deducted R598 via debit order, but when I went to the Somerset Mall kiosk, they showed me that my account is closed with a zero balance, and the R598 is not reflecting anywhere. The staff opened another support ticket, but again, nothing has been resolved.
This level of service is completely unacceptable.
After my initial complaint, MTN confirmed in writing that I could cancel my contract without any penalty fees. Despite this, I was billed R3345.96 in penalty charges, which is already unacceptable.
Now, after escalating the matter, the only response I received was that a representative (Mr Mojafa) claims they credited R240 to a closed acc. and that the account is “officially closed.” No supporting documents, no proof of payment, and no explanation were provided.
At this point, I simply do not trust any of MTN’s statements.
Let’s be clear about the unresolved issues:
1) I was charged penalty fees after being told there would be none
2) A debit order of R598 was deducted, and this amount is still not reflected or accounted for anywhere
3) MTN now claims a R240 credit was processed, with zero proof or breakdown
4) My account is allegedly “closed,” yet there is no transparency on how these figures were calculated
I have made multiple calls, visited the Somerset Mall branch, and had tickets logged with no response from MTN.This is not just poor service, it is a complete lack of accountability and transparency when it comes to billing and handling customer funds.
