No notice for expired data?!!

I've recently noticed my bill sky rocket, due to close to R300 charges for Data.

The issue is my contract has 5GB data per month, (Reason for leaving Vodacom was for their data charges hence moved to MTN for better deal) so I rarely run out and if I do (after checking very often to monitor) I would get a notification that my data is out, that way one can purchase even 1GB for 1 day as this at even R150 would still be cheaper than close to R300 for unforeseen usage which was over a few hours.

Calling in customer care, they tell me that my data ran out during the time that MTN were billing me, i.e on the last day of my payment run, it ran out but they couldn't notify me as it's within the end of the payment run so for a few hours if my data ran out they cannot tell me. The issue is not that the call centre might be making this up or incorrect, but that I didn't receive an out of data notification allowing me to protect myself of these charges. My email to ********** has been unanswered for 10 days, the email address provided by the call centre.

I'm left no choice to pay this it seems, however VERY disappointed that this is how MTN operates and therefore can rob me blind at any month with no warning?! How if I had a fair amount of mb left on that last day of the month, can I run out without notice ?!!!!

I have told so may clients and friends to consider moving to MTN for their great service, deals and data packages but this is what causes one to tell so many others to avoid them.

Hope someone can at least half apologise or explain further to me,

Cara
