No Cyber Monday Joy

Jeffreys Bay MTN Store, assistant: Andrew

I app**** for a new contract on the 28th November, having being drawn in by the Cyber Monday promo.

I spent an exhausting 6 hours in the store before finally signing all the documents after 3pm.

I submitted two sets of bank statements, my HSBC income account and my FNB cheque account which showed a substantial balance, but no income. Andrew refused to include the HSBC statement saying that it would just confuse them. I asked at least three times during the interview for them to be included, pointing out that the FNB statement showed no income only a dwindling balance. I was told not to worry, it would be fine.

On Wednesday 30th November I received an SMS saying my application had been submitted for review. I phoned the store immediately and Andrew said they had asked for some information to be resent. I asked again whether this was for the additional income statements. He said no.

I waited patiently a further week until Thursday 8th December when I went to the store. I was told the application had been closed and there was no reason given. Andrew promised a phone call that very afternoon, which never came.

I called a further three times over the next week. On Monday – he had emailed someone and would call me later. Tuesday – seems to be a problem with vetting. Will call me. Wednesday – vetting declined. Will call me when he learns the reason. He never did call at any point.

Yesterday, Monday 19th December, I phoned MTN Direct and a kind consultant looked up the details and told me that the application had been closed because on the 30th November, they had asked for clear copies of ID and bank statements showing income and had not received them.

So I phoned Andrew at the store again, who looked up my details and told me that the application still showed processing. I confronted him with the conflicting information I had received. His response; “Give me a few minutes, I’ll call you back” !!

I have clearly been strung along with pure lip-service in the hope that I either loose interest or forget the fact that I ever app**** for an MTN contract by this consultant who is failing to ackmowledge that he has clearly messed up and let his customer down horribly.

This Promo was an unbelievable offer by MTN and it is equally unbelievable and gut-wrenching to be rejected through no apparent fault of my own.
