Nasty New Year Surprise

I had always had a cap set on my account, to avoid nasty surprises on my bill. Mtn has a system whereby you can increase/ decrease your usage limit.

During the month of November 17, I had requested that it be increased by R100, the agent had advised that it was currently set at 533 do I want to increase it to 633? I agreed, bear in mind that my bill never exceeded 599.01, for nearly two years, my logic was that now it would never exceed 699.01, only to be slapped with a bill of 1200.00 for the month of December, I shudder to think what January has in store. I queried this and asked why is it this amount when I have a cap on my account, they explained that it’s a limit set to go up to when you run out of your contract allocation, so I asked so how come for the contract period that is nearly up ( thank goodness), my limit was previously set at 533, I never exceeded my bill, the agent had advised that I managed my account very well that is how come I never exceeded, not even by a cent. How is this possible????? I had also been advised that even when you don’t have data and you are in a WiFi zone you get charged, just for MTN attempting to connect you.... Not to mention airtime that I had purchased cause I had ran out.

I have kept my contract with MTN for going on +\-12 years, however with their charges and out of bundle rates the sooner, I move the better.

I honestly can’t wait to move to a different service provider...

Thank you for your post.

We sincere apologized for any inconvenience incurred.

Kindly be advised that the usage limit was set up by the user of the device from R0.00 to R633.00:
2017-11-19 16:34 USSD R0,00 R633,00 R0,00.

The extra charges for data added on the invoice is billed accordingly as per the usage limit set up by the user of the device..

Dear Alice This explaination doesn’t not work, please explain to me how come I have never exceeded my subscription amount when my limit was set at R533 prior to the 633. I suppose you will will respond the same as your agent did, “ you managed your account very well” I’m some sort of genius I expect. I don’t expect MTN to own up to their mess ups, rather just cover it up hey.... It’s sad though cause I’m not the only one who has complained on this forum, it is shocking that you would rather lose a loyal customer, than correct your wrongs. After more than 10 years of dealing with MTN, I will be more than happy concluding my contract and moving on to a service provider that can cater to my requirements. Regards
