My Worst Experience With MTN After 10+ Years of Loyalty

My Worst Experience with MTN After 10+ Years of Loyalty I have been a loyal MTN customer for more than 10 years. In 2022, I took out a contract with them and, for three years straight, I never missed a single payment. In June 2025, I believed I had completed my contract payments. However, in July my services were suddenly suspended. When I called MTN, a consultant explained that I had one final payment due. I made the payment immediately and requested that my contract be cancelled. In August, I received an SMS claiming I still owed money, and once again my services were suspended. When I followed up, I was told that no cancellation request had been lodged. After a frustrating back and forth, a cancellation was finally processed, and I was assured (on a recorded call) that I only needed to pay R156 for data, SMS, and airtime ,as the device itself was fully paid off. I made it clear that I didn’t need the airtime or extras, but was told they would be loaded regardless. I reluctantly agreed. By the end of August, my services were suspended again. Each time I called, I was given a different amount allegedly owed ,one consultant said R1,200, another said R888. Yet my last official conversation confirmed I only had to pay R156 before the contract would be fully cancelled. I have called repeatedly with no real assistance. I have written emails and received empty responses with no resolution. Meanwhile, I cannot receive important verification codes for my work, leaving me completely stranded. After more than a decade of loyalty, MTN has shown me they are the worst service provider I’ve ever dealt with. I am officially porting my number to a more reputable provider.
