I entered into a cellphone contract with MTN for an iPhone handset in July 2019 through their call centre agents. This was actually an upgrade on a pre-existing contract and the agreement was that I was to pay a monthly amount of R339 which was to cover the handset, airtime, smses and data.
On the first month they deducted the agreed amount but on the second month they deducted an amount of about R820. On enquiry I was informed that I ought to go to one of their nationwide shops to rectify the situation. At the Mthatha MTN store that I went to I was informed that there was an additional sim card that was linked to the contract which apparently was being used by someone else. Upon discovering this I was then told to submit an affidavit stating that I had no possession of such sim card and I had no knowleadge of such issuing. Indeed I submitted the said affidavit and I was promised that the situation would be resolved.
This has still not been resolved instead MTN has been deducting amounts of R638 from the month of September 2019 till now which is still contrary to the initial agreement. I have been sent from pillar to post in trying to resolve this to no avail. Please be wary of MTN's ************ business practices.
