MTN/Rewardsco Sales Strategy
I have been a loyal MTN customer for many years. I find myself locked-in to a telephonically sold package that I did not agree to, by a consultant willing to go to extreme measures to secure a sale. From the conversation, and the brief subsequent confirmatory sms (without even the name of the package mentioned in the sms) I was certain that i had been dealing with MTN. At the first sign of trouble, in the form of my mtn account, I realised this was not what I had agreed to. The "MTN" consultant had sold me the highest "MEGA" MTN talk package: including 1,500 minutes of talk time!! Even a brief perusal of my history would show that I would never agree to, or have any need for this type of package...like most individuals I have no need for even a fraction of this amount of talk time. There is simply no way I would've ever agreed to such a crazy package. This is when things get even more frustrating, and very detailed, so I will just give a summary: MTN cannot help me sort this out. Because they never sold me the package (apparently) : it was a shady company called "Rewards" or "RewardsCo" or "Mondo", I'm still not sure what their real name is. MTN gave me the consultants email address, but Rewards block the email from going through. Then MTN gave me the Rewards customer service contact number (not so easy to get) : They tell me that i can't cancel the package as i am way outside the cooling off period of 10 days (would've helped if I knew what I was cooling off from!!); I have to open an enquiry: they will listen to the audio of the sale and if they decide it was ********** then they will cancel it, otherwise sorry , they can't help. They will get back to me either way in 3-5 days. I am still waiting for feedback almost 2 weeks later Can I as the consumer listen to the audio? No sorry. I have to go to an MTN store and call Rewards from there...well I'm sure we all know how that would go. I really don't believe that MTN should treat a long-term customer so poorly by saying "' ït's not us". I would really appreciate some help from MTN in sorting this out: even if just some type of accountability from this group whom MTN addresses as "our sales team" a final point: if these guys try sell you anything at all, the best thing you can say is "no"; you will not regret it
