MTN/Mondo are ****mers

Took out a sim only contract with MTN through Mondo. I canceled the contract within 7 days of joining it and was told that I wouldn't be liable to pay anything as I was still on the cool off period. 1 year later I'm receiving calls from MBD that I'm owing MTN. How on earth is that even possible
