MtN yello no more!

I would like to know if anyone else has a problem with cancelling a mtn cellphone contract?

In Jan I upgraded my contact from to a LG G4. A few days later the phone had to be replaced with the same model because of a faulty battery. 5 months down the line and I found myself back at the store returning my device because of a faulty battery. That was last week Monday. I returned all the contents except for the earphones which I took back to them Wednesday so that it could be sent away for a warranty assessment.

I was told this would only take 2-3 working days and they would contact me. Monday I went to the store to find out if I could get a new phone only to hear that my device is still in the storage room and was never sent away for warranty assessment in the first place.

The consultants assured me it would be taken care of and that they would contact me with an update. Today I went to the store for an update only to discover that the warranty was rejected because there was a hairline scratch on the device and any imperfection to the device automatically rejects warranty. In other words they did not open the phone up to check what's wrong.

I Then told the consultant that I want to cancel my contract. He then gave me a number to call and when I asked him if I could call from the store because I do not have a phone he said I cannot. I had to drive all the way back home, borrow a neighbour's phone to call in to the call centre. They told me they cannot pick my account up on the system but that I should go into the store again and they should replace my phone. I drove back to the store talked to the manager who explained to me that basically my best bet is to repair the phone which will take another 3 weeks and see the contract through which is for another 18 months. I said they should hold onto the phone in the meantime.

I went back home emailed customer care hoping for some feedback because all the numbers listed for the various departments seem to be ghost numbers and I was put on hold multiple times for almost 30 minutes only to have the call cut before speaking to a consultant.

Eventually some robot who takes care of emails got back to me without answering my questions asked in the email and forwarded a migration form.

I will complete the form and fax it through and follow the proper cancellation procedure but their service is absolutely pathetic. I want mtn to cancel my contract and keep the device.

Telkom is vodacom will always be the best cellular service providers in South Africa.
