MTN - Wowza Wednesday promotion 21 December 2016

First of all I want to write it sweet and short. I have a contract running with MTN for 3 to 4 years. I had a lot of issues with it last year as it was a data sim and the payment went from R129 per month to R300+ after the contract end period.

Thereafter I upgraded to Smart small + and did not use it as a data sim anymore. So since having this contract I did not miss any payments and at one stage wanted to pay the contract in advance.

Yesterday this promotion of 50GB + 10 000 minutes mtn to mtn was introduced only when you upgrade and/or new contracts leaving existing loyal clients in the dark. So first thing I did was to try and find out if there is any possible way to upgrade existing contract early. And short answer was no. There is no way at all.

Reason why I would rather upgrade is because its kinda pointless having 2 sims of the same thing. And the major reason because of me being on debt review. What I still cant understand is while on debt review you can upgrade (To any contract) and even increase my limit to R3000 per month. But to add an additional contract was flagged heavily because of debt review.

I budget every month and started debt review in January 2015 . Never missed a payment and in my budget towards NCR there was R840 per month allocated. I have app**** at MTN store Carnival mall yesterday to have an additional contract. After the online process got rejected immediately. I got a letter from the debt councellors also stating the amount I can afford and what was included in my budget to the NCR and financial institutions.

Further to this this contract would have actually helped my budget to reduce so that I dont have to buy extra data through afrihost as 2 GB data is too little which is on the smart small+. So ideally this 50GB would have been a master stroke and prevented us from buying any additional data.

At this stage I am still waiting a response on my application but after speaking to the lady at the store she was not convinced at all. I believe it is going to be rejected/declined and will be very heartsaw if that happen as I feel discriminated against.

According to the debt councellor MTN look if a consumer can afford something and the letter from them clearly state I can. My current contract with them is also a + as I never missed a payment on the contract either. She also added that MTN is a service provider and not a financial institution. So this is already in my budget to the NCR . It is also not new credit ontop of the busget submitted to the NCR. And therefore are very convinced that I will not be declined.

Can you please have a look into this application as this will make my budget look even better and not worse and before I am declined. Also remember I app**** on the day of this promotion so I expect the promotion conditions to be included in my contract should it be accepted.

Regards

Thomas Herbst

********** 212083
