MTN won't refund me on a disputed debit order
On 26 March '18 my Absa a/c debited wih an auauthorised (and disputed) debit order. I reversed same in Absa's internet banking and a month later it came back for a greater amount, apparently with 'unpaid' charges tacked on (now 598.36). It took a month to get some assistance from Absa who only gave me an MTN # to call. Did this and 'Trouble ticket' # 1- ********** 4596 was opened. No action from them since and I get nowhere calling in to the person who opened the case. Now more than four months and I've not been refunded

16 Aug 2018, 08:00So, Ishie of the Complaints Management Team responded with provisionof the ema of their ***** Dept. I have emailed them twice - 6/8 and 10/8 - requesting action and not a peep. Not even an acknowledgement. Next week will be five - 5 - months that I've been out of pocket due to this disputed debit order. How long does it take, for Pete's sake!?!?!?

26 Aug 2018, 09:29Oh, for Pete's sake (again) and ***!!!!!! MTN has now DEBITED my account with 3 968.82 on 25 August with refs MTP SP A ********** and ********** 815. Still no comms from their ***** Dept on the originally required refund of 598.36 out of the disputed debit order on 26 March!!!!!! I have reversed the new amount via my Absa internet banking but there will also be overdraft interest for 1 day which will have to be refunded also. This is really ridiculous and I shall now take the matter to the consumer people at The Star and ask their help and also to name and shame

26 Aug 2018, 10:25MTN - in case you read this (given that you've apparently not read or actioned my interim posts), please do not revert to me saying that I should again address your ***** dept. They too, apparently, do not read and or manage their inward mails. What they need to do is to react to the mail that I have just sent them (with Cc to the Star/IOL) with the following text:
<<<<<
Consumer @INL: Please take up this matter on my behalf and publish the issue in your consumer page in The Star. Thank you in anticipation (Refer also previous mails to MTN which were Cc’d to you)
MTN ***** Dept:
Still no comms from you in the subject case!!!!!!
This matter has been dragging on since 26 March and absolutely no pro-active actions from your side to date!!!!!!!!
To add insult to injury, you or another dept of MTN has debited my Absa bank a/c on 25 August with a further 3 968.82.
How is this possible?????
You (in the person of Mbalezinhle Zama (173 Team Supervisor) Email: ********** have admitted that a ***** has taken place. Further, Ishie of your Complaints Management Team responded to my Hello Peter post of 5 August that I should address your dept thus acknowledging that a ***** is on record at your end
But you now go and debit the same (“**********” a/c from the perspective of the – very dubious - customer who apparently owes you money for services rendered) as was originally done on 26 March
I’m really gatvol now and must demand instant restitution!!!!!
I have posted the following in www.hellopeter.com toady and as you can see above, have requested The Star/IOL to take up the matter on my behalf

So, I expect to receive my refund of the original 598.36 as well as interest for 1 day (say R 1.08 being 3968.82 x 10% for 1 day) immediately
And, to end, perhaps you’ll do me the courtesy of acknowledging this mail this time??????
PS: For the record (just in case you did not receive them from the ‘173 team’ and/or, they have not been captured/imaged in your system and/or perhaps ‘the docket has been lost’), I have attached the original affidavit with SAPS certification mailed to 173 Team on 24 May

09 Nov 2018, 15:59So, finally a refund - AFTER & AND A HALF MONTHS - and only after I'd lodged a complaint with ICASA who addressed MTN accordingly. Amazing or Typical ???? - they can inefficiently dawdle along for over seven months doing next to nothing to resolve but the moment the watchdog barks, Hey Presto - all sorted!
- Did MTN apologise for the all hassle? NO!!!!! (of course not???)
- Did they pay (or offer to pay) any interest for having my money for seven and a half months? NO!!!! (of course not???)
- Have they given me any assurances that my banking details which were used by their de*****ing customer (and involved employee?) are now "safe" and that i am not at risk of them being used *****ently again with further debit orders on my account? NO!!! (of course not???)
There have been some 165 posts in Hello Peter re MTN this month, most with titles like:
- MTN Sucks
- Irritated
- Appalling Service
- Worst Service Ever
Consider that, if only 5 per cent of dissatisfied customers post in Hello Peter, then the total cases of dissatisfaction so far this month could be over 3 300
Is that not an indication that MTN service and customer support are not what they should be
Yes, 3 300 is a low percentage of their total customer base but I suggest that they deserve investigation as to meeting ICASA requirements and if they are in breach of their obligations
Should ICASA continue to allow MTN to operate? NO!!!
