MTN Will Ruin Your Life and Credit Score. Awful People.
Hi,
Last year around June or so, MTN South Africa handed my account over to a collection agency/lawyer for non-payment of account. Which is fair. I then made payment to the of around R7,000 to get out of arrears. However, the Lawyers then indicated that MTN handed over an amount of R47,000. Which didn't make a lot of sense because in February of that year, I had just upgraded. I mention this because you can't really upgrade or do anything with your Sim card if your account is behind or unpaid. So R47,000 seems like quite an exorbitant amount.
I then assumed perhaps they had handed over the full contract amount eg. Rx amount multip**** by 24 or 36 months.
In November of the year, I settled the full amount of R47,000. I even have a statement from the collection lawyers indicating that this account is settled and that MTN's legal team needs to amend my account status. They have shared this with MTN and have even shown evidence that they have.
I've been on multiple calls with some calls just being dropped. I've asked MTN and even went as far as to ask them for help on their Social Media account to no avail.
The consequence of this is that according to the Credit Bereau I have defaulted every month since November. And when I go in store, the people there can't help because my account is "locked".
Please whatever you do, don't ever open an MTN account for any good or bad reason.
