MTN WASP services ****

I app**** for a Data only sim at MTN a few months ago. Ever since I got the sim card an additional amount than my actual debit order amount which is suppose to be R199.00 gets deducted. I've been calling and calling and all MTN tells me it's another WASP service that was activated on this number which is ridiculous, Cleary MTN is *****ing their customers's money because we pay MTN for a service that we don't even use!!! Why does these services gets activated on our behalf this is theft. Why not call their customers and inform them if any suspicious activity is noticed?? No because they want money that's why. I then told the call centre agent to cap my account that no additional cent can accumulate on my account, and guess what it did indeed accumulated again!!! I'm so sick and tired and getting no where. I'm not subscribing to ANY of these WASP(****) services, I used another service provider before and had no issues, but ever since I moved to MTN the troublr started!! I want this sorted or I will stop my debit order and throw my sim card away!!!!

Thank you for taking time to raise your concerns with MTN.

Our subscriber terms and conditions do not make specific reference to content charges. MTN enters into contractual relationship with WASP’s (Wireless Application Service Providers), and acts as an “enabler” to the WASP’s by making the network platform available and providing a payment gateway. In addition MTN requires that such WASP’s be members of WASPA in an effort to bring about a self-regulatory measure. MTN does not have relationships with the content providers, they however have direct relationships with the WASP who aggregates such content on their behalf.

For any dispute regarding Wasp content subscription/ deductions, please lodge a complaint directly with Waspa either via www.waspa.org.za or on ***.

to check if you have any active content subscriptios the MTN network SIM card has to be in a phone and you dial *136*5# and selet an option: content services , follow the prompts,

We have since logged a request to deactivate the latest existing content services.

Hi Eunice, All good and well but I did not give any consent to any of these services to be loaded on my behalf. MTN also has TBB(Token Based Billing) don't know if your're aware of it as none of the contact centre agents knows what I'm talking about as they are just sitting there drawing MTN's money. Now the TBB states that WASPs can't bill for services UNLESS a subscriber given approval and a valid token is in place. From the MTN website you state "Without a token, a WASP cannot bill a customer. Once you APPROVE your subscription to a WASP service, the WASP has the right to bill you. To assist with your billing process, MTN converts your airtime into tokens on behalf of the WASP. MTN is not responsible for WASP content." So I want you to show me proof that I approved those subscriptions, if that is not the case then MTN must refund me. You can't expect me to sort this out myself as MTN took my money off my debit order not the WASP service provider so I want nothing to do with them I will deal with MTN which I signed up with. I then also insist that you please block any further activations of these kind on my account going forward. Because clearly your're TBB system doesn't seem to be working!
