MTN - Unauthorised Debit Order Deductions

I have several thousand Rands being deducted off my account on a monthly basis without any contracts with MTN.

So I try to get hold of MTN. Here's how that goes:-

To find a number to dial on their website is a search of several minutes because it is hidden. Once you do find the number (shown as “135”) you now need to work out that you can’t dial this number from any non-MTN phone. So you have to figure out the number needs to actually be 083 135. Then you get to the options to get help which is:- 1. Query an MTN Number; 2. Assistance with MTN mobile money; 3. Port a number to MTN; 4. Protect yourself against covid infection; 5. Listen to the menu again. Neither of these options provides for enquiries, complaints or actual assistance!!!

Then there is MTN Chat – what a pointless exercise. You send a query and get a standard menu like you would with USSD codes.

So I try to log a complain as per the MTN website - there's a number (also hidden) but, when you dial it you reach ICASA.

This is a phone company that you cannot get hold of by phone!!

When I asked my bank, how it is possible with the protection of Debi-check for a company to activate a Debit Order without the owner of the account authorizing it, I was told it is possible that they might have my records from a previous contract and have just reactivated that erroneously. Here's my concern, I know for a fact, I have not done business with MTN for 15 years. How can they just reactivate a Debit Order without again obtaining my consent?

I would love to discuss this with anyone at MTN if only they could figure out how to use a phone!!!
