HELP
It is regarding an issue that I am probably about 10 million other South Africans are having with MTN. If I can elaborate; On Saturday, The 27th of October 2018 I purchased a R20 recharge voucher for my MTN cell, number ********** 455, and was immediately credited with R20 to my account plus a further R20 bonus airtime. I then bought a 120 Meg data bundle at 09:30AM to go online. I was once again immediately sent an sms informing me that the 120Meg data bundle was ACTIVE. I took this to mean that I could now use my phone and get online, which I did. To my horror when I tried to make a call, knowing that I had more than enough airtime about 30 minutes later, I was told that I was out of airtime. Upon checking my balance I found that all my airtime was used up for out of bundle rates and my Data bundle was UNTOUCHED.
Being irritated at this I contacted the call centre and after a really long wait with consultants who have no idea what they are doing I was informed that MTN had a problem and that THEIR system was NOT activating data bundles. Which meant that I and the millions of other customers that had purchased the data bundles on that day, and according to them previous days, were effectively being charged out of bundle rates as we could not use the data bundles that we had purchased. THIS AMOUNTS TO THEFT. I was told not to worry and that they will open a ticket for me and the problem would be escalated and sorted out within 24 hours. I was satisfied and left it at that. The ticket number is SMC\\ ********** 9065.
On Sunday morning I was under the impression that the problem was resolved and I stupidly went out and purchased more airtime and immediately bought a data bundle. Once again the system message was that the DATA bundle was active and once again after 15 minutes online I was left with NO MORE AIRTIME BUT A FULL 150 MEGS OF DATA. I called again and spent over a hour with at least 4 consultants and 1 manager and got the same answers as the day before. I was also told that my ticket was still open and that it would only be looked at on Monday as the technical department was closed on the weekends. I am the idiot. As I have the ticket number I requested that they please open a new ticket for Sunday the 28th of October 2018 and I was told by the manager that it was not necessary and that she would add the query to the open ticket. I actually believed her, I did mention that I was stupid.
So on Monday at 12PM I called again and was again told by them that they understand my frustration and that my ticket was still open. I was promised that a manager would call me back as I was not satisfied and was told that the problem would be sorted out by latest Tuesday. NO manager called. On Tuesday I called back and was told that the problem was still occurring and that my ticket was still open. I was then to that it would be escalated again and given a reference 1- ********** 4004. I was also told that a senior manager would call me no later than 9Am on Wednesday. It is now 09:30AM.
I am tired and BEG for your help. Its not just my puny R40 that I want refunded. Lets extrapolate this out. MTN has 225 Million customers on the continent. Lets conservatively say that 10 million are purchasing these data bundles every day at a conservative R10. That's R 100 000 000.00 that MTN is *****ing from their customers every day. Now multiply that out by the number of days that they take to make the refund and calculate the interest that they earn on those ****** funds whilst idiots like me beg for our refunds.
This is theft with no accountability. PLEASE HELP.
