I had two contracts with MTN, one ending on 16 August 2020. I called MTN contact center a month before to know process if I do not wish to upgrade and migrate to prepaid rather. I contacted retention's department as advised before, to migrate the primary contract number to prepaid, I was never advised of any cancellation fees, I was aware that the 24 months contracted has ended. I received tons of SMS's advising the number has been migrated, consultant confirmed I will be paying for 1 contract only, no other amount except the monthly installment on 2nd contract.
To my surprise on the 28 August 2020, I received an email from MTN, "FINAL NOTICE FOR PAYMENT OF OUTSTANDING DEBT AND NOTICE OF CANCELLATION OF SUBSCRIBER CONTRACT" the document had all my correct details as I thought at first it was not for me, just a mistake. From the letter was threatened if I do not make a call MTN to make arrangement to pay R5268,88 MTN will take legal action against me and ********* devices. And they will report my default payment to a credit bureau. I called to advised i will renew an expired contract I did not cancel the exit contract, that has been confirm by some of the consultants, with no much help just being sent from pillar to post. I needed an explanation on how a R199 x 24 months contract left me with a bill of R5268,88 when I paid every installment for 24 months. Its a second timed ****med by MTN they threatened to suspend my number if i don't pay an amount no one could explain to me. The consultant are lacking compassion too, as I got emotional about as know I'm being ****med.
I wish MTN had called me to advised of outstanding amount and just like they were harassing me for months to upgrade the contract, not threaten me with legal action. I do not owe MTN R5268,88 I did not do early cancellation on contract, I migrated my number to prepaid of an expired 24 month contract.
