MTN, the Bozza company you should never do business with.
I am attaching a mail where I am trying to cancel my contract with them. I have been trying to stop my account since January this year if I remember correctly, but without any success or feedback besides automated responses. I am truly disappointed in MTN as a company who I have been a "consumer" of since early in 1999, so please forgive my angry mail to them:
Good day,
I have now been trying to get through to the 135 number since before 13:15 today. It is currently 13:34. I am on my third attempt to contact the call centre, and the phone timer is on 11 minutes and 43 seconds, which unfortunately includes 6 minutes of “if you want this, choose option that shyte” and then a few repeat promos of data for life ****, followed by about 7 minutes of absolute silence.
This will be going to HelloPeter as well, but clearly MTN is happy with being a useless service provider. I have to admit it took me more than 20 years to actually finally admit it. I have had MTN accounts since 1999. However, this past year has been the last straw. I get migrated from a “Made for Me” account which seemed to work okay for me to a load of **** “MegaGigs XL” account that made me forfeit over 300 minutes of airtime.
Secondly the way my account has been set up, it always seems as though I am 2 months in arrears, as my account is due on the 7th of each month, but the account run is done on the 26th of the month. Stupid. I tried rectifying this too, but no success either.
Thirdly, your service centres are pathetic. I tried on this past weekend to go and discuss with the staff at the one office in Mall@Carnival, but waited quite a while before realising speaking to them would be a lost cause as the hamster has fallen off its wheel a long time ago based on their facial expressions. We then went to the MTN office on the other end of the mall where a far more helpful assistant tried to solve our queries for us. However, despite her taking our numbers, and today being Thursday, no further assistance has been forthcoming from MTN’s service centre.
I received yet another sms today informing me that MTN is obliged to notify me that my contract has expired, which is when I sent a whatsapp to the number in the link. I tried explaining my plight to the consultant, or (as MTN prefers to incorrectly refer to themselves as) “champion” who basically informed me that if I do not have a business registered with MTN, I cannot qualify for a business package. Which really sucks, as the consumer (Champions vs Consumers – WOW!!!) package from MTN is ridiculously expensive. If I wanted to upgrade from my current Huawei P30 Mate to the current P40 Mate (I’m not exactly sure of the current model’s name), I will be expected for fork out an additional R300 plus per month which is really nothing more than pure greed per phone, which would cause my contract to increase from R1732 per month to over R2200 per month, a whopping 27% increase, talk about above inflation and irregular spending. We don’t all work for Eskom or the municipality to be able to register a new **** company in order to qualify for a more practical package. This is *******ion on an enormous scale. However, I suppose that it isn’t completely unreasonable behaviour from a company who employs Al Queda *********s to protect its cellphone towers or who is made unwelcome as a service provider in Nigeria of all places in the world.
My phone has been connected to the 135 number in absolute silence now for 28minutes and 30 seconds, with no answer.
I really feel it is time for me to separate ways with MTN as an organisation. I would like a responsible manager to contact me and resolve an amicable solution to cancelling my contract. I realise that by sneakily migrating my contract in January to the MegaGigs packages, you have obviously found a loophole where my phone contract is one duration and the sim contract is another duration, but this is something that I feel I may need to take up with the competition commission as I feel it is a dishonest way to do and maintain business.
34 Minutes and 10 seconds without a single sound from the 135 number now. So could you justify a single reason as to why I should remain with MTN as a “Service Provider”?????
Your swift response is expected in this regard,
Terence Dixon.
