MTN Technology breaks sewage pipes during cable installation but gets customer to pay for repairs
In April 2015, MTN, Huawei Technology and Molapo Technology obtain a wayleave to lay fibre-optic cables in Parkmore. In a rush to get the job done, they lay cable by blindly drilling under our driveway and indiscriminately hacking around the water meter. First they rupture the water lines. A short while later they drill straight through sewage pipes. In an attempt to expedite repairs, we take it upon ourselves to organise the labourers, plumbers and at our own costs. Huawei Technology engineers, Jaendra Coetzee and Johan Rossouw come on site 3x, agreed that it MTN's fibre-optic cables were the cause of the extensive damage and agreed with our repair process. This involved lifting up a significant section of our drive way, excavating a 2 x 3 metre rock and replacing sections of the sewage pipe. At the time they wholeheartedly and sincerely assured us that MTN would re-imburse us for the costs (R45 000 000) Since sending Johan Rossouw a very detailed invoice (net of manual labour for which we paid ourselves) , I have contacted MTN represenatives, Mr Vengai Runage & Mr Leon Naidoo on 4 separate occasions ("yes yes, will be having a meeting soon about this problem" was the answer on each occasion) Huawei's provisioning engineer, Mapula Mamabolo, won't respond. Huawei's Wayleave Manager, Rajen Moodley, has promised to resolve the matter since Aug 2017. MTN representatives claim they can't act, because their engineer Rossouw has left the company (although I have evidence that he has opened my emails). Rajen Moodley claims he is in charge of the matter, but too busy with too many matters (presumably of a similar nature). The question is whether MTN and Huawei are *********** or ******-minded or dishonest. Given the speed and efficiency with which fibre optic cable was laid and subsequent bandwidth charged for, they are very competent. Given the callousness with which the blindly drill under their customers' driveways, means they don't care for their customers. Given that MTN gets customre to pay for repairing the damage that they caused in the first place whilst promising to reimburse, and then they systematically avoid the matter is dishonest and cynical.
