MTN systems imbeds ********* practices in their systems, and erroneously to continue to bill conveniently

I ordered an upgrade package deal on MTN direct, in February 2017. The order wasn’t delivered and after a couple of days, I inquired to find out what happened to the delivery. I got informed that somebody phoned in and changed the delivery address, but that the package is still with the distribution company. I cancelled the upgrade order immediately, distrusting the state of the ordered package, and the confused state of the handlers of MTN and the distribution company.

I started to monitor early in March to see if my order was cancelled, and called in to ********** on the 3rd, 7th, 9th and 10th of March to confirm the status of my cancellation. Every time I got told that the cancellation takes some time. After I found that the upgrade order is still not cancelled, I went to the MTN shop close by for help. I got referred to MTN in Menlyn since they are just a franchise. At MTN in Menlyn I was helped by a very friendly and helpful lady. She made calls and emails and assured me that the order will be cancelled in 48 hours.

The order wasn’t cancelled 48 hours after the date of promise. I called in again to the shop in Menlyn and once again and got a reference number( ********** 4) and was requested to be patience for 48 hours, which I waited out. Still nothing. I got frustrated and phoned the MTN shop again, and explained my concern that the billing date closes in, and that I don’t want to be billed for a product that I didn’t receive.

I got promised that it will be cancelled on Friday (the 24th of March) or else Monday on the latest. Eventually the order got cancelled on the Tuesday and fortunately wasn’t billed for the cancelled upgrade, and the normal expected amount was invoiced and debited from my account.

Today (29 April) I received the MTN invoice with the cancelled ordered product billed for this month(April) and last month(March). It seems that the systems of MTN are designed to delay a cancellation of an order unnecessary, and when the order is cancelled eventually, the billing system conveniently continues the transaction on a delayed date.
