MTN Stores don't comply with POPI
On Saturday, I went to their clearwater branch to apply for the new MTN Contract on their data deals. I spent close to 2 hours with the consultant Laison Phakathi trying to upload the my details on the system and I left the store with no finalized deal. Liason promised to contact me on Sunday around 9/10. I never received the call instead I received the email notifying me that authentication fails twice. I then went back to the store to find out on the status of my new application. Laison advised the matter is no longer the system problem - the matter is now allocated to DSV ( it is was a miscommunication with the head office) - I politely asked the gentlemen to cancel everything there's too many hassles before the 24 months agreement begins. He offered to give me back my documents.I did not believe this, He pulled the my sensitive information from the open couch where it was exposed to other customers - shocking that MTN doesn't comply with POPI. ( Please note that should there be a ********** transaction with my information, MTN will be held liable for this).
The ’acting supervisor’ - Xolani Khubeka took over the query as I requested for cancellation of the application in writing - Xolani advised that it was not possible to do so as the matter has allocated to DSV - He also promised to contact me on Monday - I had to follow up to get feedback.
The matter is not finalized yet.
