MTN - Stop your spam!

MTN please be advised that I am receiving unwanted SMS marketing, I tried to follow the opt-out process by dialing *121# as stated in the marketing messages, but the only options available there are to "opt-in" and "help" ("help" having no opt-out option either). Therefore it seems impossible for me to opt-out of these communications. In addition, sending STOP or CANCEL to any stated numbers did not seem to work either. Legislation clearly states that consent must be revocable just as simply as it is given. MTN - you are hereby warned that you are in breach of legislation governing direct marketing (POPIA, GDPR). If you do not stop sending me unwanted direct marketing messages, my intention is to take this up with my legal adviser and pursue a harassment suite against MTN. As MTN is an active participant on this website, I am considering this as official notice to MTN submitted through a communication channel of my choice (if MTN get to choose how to spam me and do not provide an opt out on the same channel, I will choose what channel to use for my communications).

You don’t seem to understand... removing my number from the marketing list isn’t going to cut it anymore. I am supposed to be able to do it myself. Your message states that to opt-out I need to dial *121# - but the option to opt out isn’t available there. That is a purposeful deception of a client, and ********* advertising practice. I will not let this go, MTN will have a simple opt out option and it will be delivered with every message that goes out and it will actually work! You are missing a point here - it’s not about one unhappy customer, this is about MTNs breach of marketing legislation, and judging from other comments on here and on other websites this has been going on for ever and with out any consequences - and this is what must stop!

Thank you for your patience.

Please see feedback from our Marketing team:

I have Opted the customer out of MTN marketing and can confirm that the customer will not receive marketing content going forward.  I am investigating to see why this customer was not able to opt out and will revert with feedback.
