MTN *****s money from a dead woman's account
After being pushed from pillar to post with promises unfulfilled I am now at my wits end and have to write an exceedingly negative review about MTN and its level of service. I am not even an MTN customer, but after this, I certainly never will be. In March this year my mother passed away and I have been trying since then to convert her MTN contract (which ended in April) to a pay as you go so my father may continue using the phone. As the executor of her estate I phoned the call centre, and they put me through to the Legal Dept. I sent them the Death Certificate and my ID. They advised me that the required change could not be done over the phone, I would have to visit a branch. I said I wasn't happy to do that in these days of Covid, but they insisted that it was the only way. I made a special trip to the branch at Karaglen, Edenvale - to be told that they would not attend to my query, I would have to phone the call centre. Seriously???? I then phoned the call centre again on 24 June - this call took over an hour - and was finally put through to the Legal Department. Eventually I was advised that my request had been adhered to, and that the requested change had been made. I asked if the Debit Order would be cancelled, and she said yes, there would be no DO for July. Needless to say, the DO did occur......... and today, I see that ANOTHER DO, for August, will be taken off the account. I phoned MTN again this morning - and was told that I had to speak to the Retentions Dept - but after hanging on for over half an hour ..... with that awful music ..... I eventually hung up. I have spent many wasted hours on this and have got nowhere. I'm not sure why MTN feel it necessary to ***** money from a dead woman's account, but they obviously have their reasons. I sincerely hope somebody will contact me, explain what is going on, and MAKE THE REQUESTED CHANGES.
