MTN *****s early upgrade subscriptions from customers.
So last year about july or august, I dropped my phone and cracked the screen. When I then checked when I was due for upgrade, it gave me a date of march 2021. This year in march, I checked again, obviously to upgrade the phone contract, and the date has changed to end April 2021. When I phone service center, they tell me the upgrade process has changed, and I cannot upgrade early without penalty. When I ask about the penalty, they tell me that if I upgrade before the contract expiry date, I have to pay the remaining subscriptions on the old contract as well as the subscriptions of the new contract. So when I then again phone the service center, they send me a message they will call me back. When they do, they tell me they want all my details to verify it is me. My response is, first give me all your details so that I can verify it is MTN, because I do not give my details until I know who I am talking to. They put the phone down in ear. 1. First of all, surely they should inform the customers that they are changing the terms and conditions of the contract before they do change these terms and conditions. They do not own me, I am a customer, and I have the right to be informed beforehand. 2. All along they have kept their customers by allowing them to upgrade earlier and then not charging them for those three months or four months. Worked into the price of the new contract is a fee that covers this cost. I know I used to work for these people. This now means they are *****ing an additional three of four months subscription from the customers for nothing. That is blatantly dishonest and *********.
What has happened to MTN? From a good company that looked after its customers, they have now become a money hungry ********* dishonest company, that no longer sees its customers as an asset, but rather a resource to be abused without limits.
This is simply the last straw. I will wait untill my contract expires, and then I will port to another network, and this includes everyone that I can share this story with. I will suggest they get away from MTN. We as customers do not need to support people like this. We do not need a business like this in South Africa.
