MTN *****ing my AIRTIME

Currently I have a contract with MTN receiving monthly airtime and data.

In order to control the data usage of my son I tried vairous options. After a while I found out that I could buy a 24 hour data bundle which suited me perfectly since now I can transfer airtime from my phone to his in order to buy the data once every weekend. I tried buying airtime via the "MTN eazi recharge", but I could do this successfully only once on 8 August 2016 buying R200 worth of airtime.

On 28 August 2016, after trying unsuccessfully on different days and different times to buy airtime, I went to the MTN store for help and they experienced the sam e problem. I then decided, in order not to struggle buying airtime, to buy R1000 worth of airtime. I could now transfer airtime from my phone to my son's or buy the 24 hour data bundle on my phone. Once or twice I had to buy a airtme/data bundle for myself using the R1000 airtime purchase. I now had a good way of controlling my son's data usage.

My problem however is that I started noticing that whenever I made a call, airtime was being deducted from my R1000 purchase and NOT from my contract minutes!! Since I specifically bought this airtime for my son's data usage this was a problem to me. Sometime in September2016 I went to the store and since they did not know what to do the store assistant escalated this to the MTN head office. According to the store assistant and manager this was the first time they are experencing such a problem.

I frequently visited the store to enquire about their progress, but had no luck. I sent emails to MTN and 3 different people responded, but the answers I received clearly indicated that the respondents did not understand the problem at hand. By now the store manager was also involved and I've forwarded all the emails to her on 28 November 2016.

My R1000 airtime was finally depleted on 23 December 2016. I had a chance to visit the store on 3 January 2017, but once again the store manager had an excuse and now, after about 4 months I'm still waiting for a proper response from the store or MTN head office!!

In the meantime I've also spoken to other people about my dilemma and found out that some of them also have contracts with MTN and in order to do cell-phone banking they have to buy extra airtime which is also "******" whenever they make a phone call!!

I'm sure that there are millions of people who have contracts with MTN and who have to buy extra airtime in order to do cell-phone banking....?!!

Since this 24 hour data bundle suits me good, I would like to continue using it, but only if this technical problem is sorted out.

Kind regards.

Good day Bernard,

As per REQ:*** that you have provided us within this post, it was advised that this query needs to be raised with the SMC team (technicians). We do however notice that you ( *** ) are currently on the AnyTime 100 TopUp package that includes rand value airtime and not minutes.

What we have picked up is that your purchased airtime is being depleted first than the contract inclusive airtime and we have logged a query for this with our SMC technicians. Herewith below please find the reference for the escalation:

SMC/***

We sincerely hope that the above is in order and that we are able to restore your faith in us.

Kind Regards,
