MTN - South Africa's Worst Network

I cannot even BEGIN to describe the THOUSANDS of problems I have had with MTN over the last 14 or so years I've been a loyal customer. I would be typing until my thumbs fall off. Problem number 1: From trying to claim almost R20 000 from me when MTN provided me with a faulty device, the device was sent to Dubai to be evaluated. I was told they could not provide me with a working device and that MTN would be terminating the contract. But then expected me to cover the device fee and contract cancelation. I was told by a store consultant that there were a few hundred people with the same problem, as apparently the device was not compatible with the contract MTN was providing. Problem number 2: I did an early full payment on one of my cellphone contracts, including the early cancelation fee. The contract was confirmed paid in full and closed. MTN continued billing the contract amount for a further 8 MONTHS. Problem number 3: exactly the same incident as above with another device. You honestly wouldnt believe the amount of money and time I've lost taking off work and petrol driving up and down to MTN stores. At one point I was at an MTN branch minimum 1 - 2 times per day for over 3 months straight. Problem number 4: the vast majority of store consultants and even store management have no concept of what customer service means, and absolutely will not and do not want to help you unless you're opening a contract so they can make their money. I have found one single store consultant that is willing to help me after visiting virtually every branch in Nelson Mandela Bay and Kouga Municipality, just to find out the consultants have so little access to anything and that the ones that want to help, physically cant do anything. Problem number 5: MOST RECENT AND MOST ANNOYINGLY I have been paying MTN device insurance for over 4 years. 28 days ago I made an insurance claim for my work phone. I am STILL waiting for feedback. I expect this issue to be dealt with immediately, or that all my insurance payments of the last 4 years be refunded. If MTN can't stick to their side of a contract, why should I?

In my family we have 12 MTN contracts, many of them Business packages. We will all be leaving MTN once our contract time is up. MTN customer service bombed out years ago. Then we stayed for the cheaper contract prices and best network. Then MTN became one of the most expensive places to get your device. Still we stayed for the network coverage. In recent months even that has dropped in quality. There is no reason to stay with MTN anymore. It saddens me as I have shown so much loyalty to this company over the years, but MTN has lost their loyalty to their customers.

There are dozens of other problems, but like I said I'd be here all day. If MTN could start taking some responsibility and treating their customers like human beings we'd all have a better time.
