MTN South Africa - Dishonest and ***********
I received a call from MTN reward sales dept informing me that since I am a loyal customer with them for a long time, I qualify for a free phone which they are overstocked on since Nov 2025 Black Friday. I agreed on receiving the free Huawei Nova Y73 8GB+256GB and insisted that my current airtime & data package must remain the same i.e. 200min + 2GB. Approx a week later the phone was delivered with an invoice with a zero value. Invoice No ***, MTN SA REF Order No ***4_1 Invoice date 2026-01-06. On the 12th of Jan 2026 when I received an SMS indicating my new airtime and data was 60min+1GB. Called the MTN rewards Sales dept Ref MB6BGJC on 15th Jan 26 spoke to Kimona, I was informed that a Upgrade reversal will be done. Called again on the 22nd Jan 26 Ref ME5OR7A spoke to Janike and was informed that the upgrade reversal was not actioned and that she will contact the cancellation dept and ensure that the upgrade reversal be done. I also need to return the device. The device was returned at MTN Lenasia Trade Route Mall. I followed up again on the 29th of Jan, Ref MGMT51G spoke to Tyheal Govender, who informed me that a request will be made again direct with MTN back-office. On the same day again and spoke to Janika Ref MGVPKJO and informed her that the device has been returned at MTN Trade Route Mall in Lenasia ZRMS number ***. I was informed by Janika that it will take 21 days for the cancellation to be processed. Today tha 13th of March 2026, I called the MTN reward sales dept since the airtime and data that I received was still 60min+1GB instead of the original 200min+2GB. Spoke to Aiden Fischer REF N44REOP, explained what had happened, he check on the system and confirmed with me that the cancellation process was incorrectly done by all of the other previous consultants even after I had returned the 'Free' device. I queried regarding not receiving the correct mins and data and was informed that the cancellation was previously incorrectly done and that he will have to redo it. I asked how long will it take and initially was told he is not sure. However, later on Aiden informed me that he will personally handle this matter and revert in two weeks time. I queried regarding the overcharge and the airtime and data reimbur*****t which he confirmed that I will be reimbursed. It is now over 10 weeks and the issue is still not resolved. MTN Sales dept is not reliable and will trick you into accepting deals but do not honor it.
