MTN South Africa ******
MTN did it again. I had a contract with MTN for the last 3 years for myself and husband. Firstly the Hi-sense phone worked for 2 years (ALWAYS), then it breaks. That means for the last year you have to buy new phones anyway. Then it comes to the end of your contract. My contract ended 04/05/24. I phoned multiple times to ask what the correct procedure is. Obviously there is NO voice prompt for cancelling or end of your contract. So you wait patiently on the line. I was told to wait to phone, until 04/05/2024. I must phone on the exact date of my contract ending (or expired), so I did. On the 04/05/2024 I phoned MTN, to inform them that I will NOT reinstate my contract . I informed them that I am on retirement and cannot afford them anymore. It cost my husband and I about R9000 a year. I was asked if I wanted to keep my number as prepaid and I said yes. MTN assured me after a long wait that everything is now in order, contract is cancelled and that my number is now a prepaid number. I thanked them. The next day I went to Capitec Connect to be activated and for data. Capitec did struggle to connect me for about a week and a half. I was on wi-fi at home, so I did not need data.
In the meantime my husband and I was phoned just about every second day to upgrade or go on a new contract,, super annoying. After all that we still got phoned to answer questions about MTN.
The end of May, money went off. I tried to phone but gave up. I thought that's the end. No, end of June again, another amount. After several attempts of contacting them in I gave up and send a message on e-mail asking what this money was for as it was the END of A CONTRACT. This was the reply:
Thank you for contacting the MTN email department. I apologize for the inconvenience caused. Please contract deactivation was on the 05/04/2024, there was a cancellation fee of R1430.21, your account is not closed with no outstanding amount. We thank you for your continued support. Kind Regard Edward Phaka. Customer Services MTN SA
How do I pay a cancellation fee on an "End of a contract". How? I phoned the correct date? Did they not close it? So MTN took another R1430,21. I do not know if another amount will be taken again at the end of July 2024?
I cannot do anything about this BUT I do want to WARN other MTN users when they come to the end of your contract. THEY WILL CHARGE YOU AGAIN!!! Mrs. JFW Du Preez Retiree
