MTN SOUTH AFRICA CONTRACT - FINAL NOTICE FOR PAYMENT OF OUTSTANDING DEBT AND NOTICE OF CANCELLATION OF SUBSCRIBER CONTRACT

PLEASE CANCEL MY CELL PHONE CONTRACT. Account number: ************

I seriously don’t know how many times I need to ask MTN this?

I am seriously dumbfounded by the way I have been threatened by MTN. I would like to lay a formal complaints against MTN while this issue is being investigated by my lawyers.

I have been trying to resolve this issue now for over 3 months. In October 2020, I received a letter of “FINAL NOTICE FOR PAYMENT OF OUTSTANDING DEBT AND NOTICE OF CANCELLATION OF SUBSCRIBER CONTRACT’ from MTN.

I was told in the letter that MTN is giving me notice that they will be cancelling my subscriber contract and that I need to pay the amount of outstanding debt and early cancellation charges (R4,092,51) within 14 days. I made the full payment and sent proof of payment with reference number as instructed on the threatening letter. After making payment, I emailed customer care with my account number, cell phone number, proof of payment informing them that this payment is for the cancellation of my subscriber contract.

However, A YEAR LATER, I received another threatening 3 working days Notice letter from a debt collecting company for outstanding payment of my subscriber contract???? So, I contacted MTN customer support explaining them the situation and asking them why was my contract not cancelled as I paid the early cancellation fees as well as the outstanding debt? The payment is reflecting according to your staff and they redirected me to the Legal department. I sent and email enquiry to the Legal team for assistance to which they copied in the retention department.

I also emailed the retentions team regarding this and in their response it said I can’t cancel subscriber contracts via email and I need to call the call centre?? Is this what the retentions department email is for according to your website???

I’ve been back and forth with NuDebt as I have no been handed over to Credit Bureau. They are telling me that I was not supposed to use the "FINAL NOTICE FOR PAYMENT OF OUTSTANDING DEBT AND NOTICE OF CANCELLATION OF SUBSCRIBER CONTRACT” as confirmation that the contract was going to be cancelled after payment of the pre-cancellation and outstanding debt payments. Apparently the letter does not constitute as a request for cancellation, the document sent was to indicate what would happen if MTN were to cancel the account due to non-payment . The letter was to merely indicate the consequences of non-payment. This is simply not true. There is NO ROOM FOR MISUNDERSTANDING HERE.

The letter threatened me to pay the outstanding debt and pre-cancellation payment, as MTN gave me notice of cancellation. What did I pay the R4,092.51 for???? I have sent a previous email to the complaints team about this without a response.

Just yesterday, after all of this, I received yet another invoice for my contract which still hasn’t been cancelled? What are you people doing behind your desks? Surely after all of this you would assist the customer and stop the payments and cancel the contract? Why am I still being charged?
