MTN & Sony Lack of Customer care

MTN has been my service provider since 2005. Thus far I have been relatively happy with their service. Last year around April I upgraded to a Sony Xperia Z3. I was very happy with my phone seeing as it was an excellent phone. At the beginning of the year my phone got wet and stopped work dispite it being proudly advertised as a waterproof phone. I took my phone in to the MTN branch in Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre in Jan/Feb of this year. They sent it away. After a few weeks I received a very confusing message that stated that my phone was beyond repair and I had to pay R380 to get my broken handset back. I must say I am VERY disappointed in MTN's lack of customer care and Sony's backing of their product quality! I was offered no alternative or way to get a new phone or maybe a pay-in to get a new phone. I was simply told my waterproof device I have had for less than 9 months was \beyond repair\" and I had to pay to get my broken device back! This saddens me greatly as I really thought MTN or Sony would care more for their customers. They inspected my phone and could see that I had not voided the casing or left any latches open when the phone got wet. No solution was offered. "

Hello Colyn02,

We are truly sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Kindly note the findings of the technician was that the device was water damaged and this voids the guarantee of the device as per the terms & conditions from the manufacturer.

If you feel that the devices quality was not up to advertised standard, you will need to contact Sony directly and possibly get them to inspect the device by their in-house technicians for investigation.

Once again we do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Regards
Tim
