I have tried the following measures to stop the daily promotional messages from MTN:
1. *130*603# 2. SMS STOP to 30246 3. *136*5# opt - 2 opt - 2 4. SMS STOP to 2442 5. I have contacted MTN via their Facebook page 6. I have made sure none of the consent options are set on on the MyMTN app under MTN Services > Manage messages from MTN > Manage Consent 7. I have visited their branch at the Waterfront and they tried some things (were very helpful but did not work) 8. I have called the customer care line 135 and old number 173 - which is no help as it is self service only even though the branch told me I could speak to a consultant if I called in 9. I did write a review on Hello Peter and Dinesh Kowlasar from the Complaints Management team did get back to me with this suggestion Dial *135# Choose option 3 "pre paid service'. Then option 6 Consent settings'. I did reply to him to say that it didn't work but after a week I have given up.
None of the above options work. I am still getting promotional messages EVERYDAY such as :
Y'ello, Double your Bundle. Get 200MB MTN Data FREE, buy 200MB for R29 valid for 7 Day. Dial *142# and select 'DOUBLE DATA' to buy this offer. Ts&Cs apply. This is another: Y'ello! Have tons of fun with MTN Play! Visit www.mtnplay.co.za and experience a new exciting MTN world of Music, Gaming, Video and Lifestyle content. Ts&Cs.
I am new to MTN after being with Vodacom for 16 years and this annoyance is a big negative against what seems like a great network. Surely your customers should have the right not to receive the same message from you everyday! I DON T WANT TO GET ANY FREE DATA and you DONT NEED TO ASK ME EVERYDAY.
