MTN Sim Swop Saga
Good day, On Friday, 6th March I contacted the MTN call centre to have my sim card blocked. They assured me that this had been done but the following day a call came in so clearly it had not been blocked. Due to all the chaos that ensued thereafter and I was not able to do a sim swop until Wednesday evening, I was advised it would take 2 - 24 hours to become active. 24 hours later, with it still not been active (although the old sim card was still not blocked and ringing), I was then advised that in order to proceed with a sim swop the old sim had to be re-enabled in order for them to change over sims.
So basically what they are saying is that the ***** that stole my sim card, which is a business number, has full use of an uncapped line until such time as they can enable the sim swop. It has now been 41 hours that the old sim has remained open and I still do not have access to using the new sim card. I asked the MTN consultant at MTN Hemingways whether MTN would be liable for all costs incurred from when I blocked the card until now but of course she said all costs would be for my account.
Bottom line is is this even possible to only re-issue a sim card when the old sim is active. I somehow doubt this is even legal.
As this is a business line and my boss is away, the MTN call centre won't talk to me as he has not signed over a Power of Attorney in order from to gain assistance. I do, however, have a letter on a company letterhead stating that I have permission to get this matter sorted out on his behalf.
The number is question is ********** . In the meantime I can be contacted on **********
I would be very grateful for any advice you have to offer and look forward to your earliest response.
Kind Regards, Paula Mitchell
