MTN sim card swapped without permission
My sim card number was swapped without permission and all of a sudden while on whatsapp a message ****ed up saying that it looks like this number is not on whatsapp and another screen asking for verification code to be entered popped up. The code was supposed to be sent via sms for me to enter it but it never happened, thus my whatsapp didn’t work anymore. The whatsapp support team cannot help to reinstate my number also. I then lost network connectivity from that time - 19:20 pm till the following day in the afternoon. I went to MTN Vaal Mall with bad customer service also and asked why I don’t have connectivity and they told me that there was a sim swap made on my number and they reversed the swapping. Nothing else was said except that I should go to my bank and find out if there wasn’t any foul play on my account. Little did I know that the swapping affected transacting from my bank account. I then went to the police station Sharpeville to report this incident and they wanted proof from the network. MTN Vaal Mall said they couldn’t give me such a report because they only record the activities of the contract phones/numbers only and their system is just like that also. How is it that phone numbers connected to the entire person’s life be easily manipulated and not have a tracking of activities on it? How can the police be unable to help with such incidents because their system will not give one a case number if they don’t have a specific code/number from the network provider? Does it mean that nothing could/will be done for all prepaid customers when they have the same challenge as mine? Does it mean the perpetrators will always go free and keep harassing people’s lives? What good will it do if I change my number? It doesn’t guarantee safety from such attempts. Is there anyone out there who has an idea of what should be done with such cases? Besides changing my number, what else is there to do? Kind regards Tsili
