MTN should not advertise customer 'CARE'
I have a MTN contract on my name since 2004/5, but it was for my husband's account (got divorced in 2010). He paid it religiously every month and every second year I went with him to upgrade. In Jul/Aug'18 he phoned me out of hospital to ask if I will go to MTN and upgrade on his behalf, but couldn't at the time. I received a notification from MTN at the beginning of Sept'18 with an outstanding payment of R1546 on this contract, but thought he would pay it, because he was in hospital for a few months and because he never skipped payment. At the end of Sept'18 he passed away and I went to MTN (De Anker building, Rustenburg) at the beginning of Oct to cancel the contract. The consultant wasn't sure what to do, but he filled the cancellation form and I signed. He took my number and said he will contact me if there is any problems. From there on I started receiving more and more notifications from MTN, but the executer of my ex-husband's estate said I should just send everything to them. After the executer phoned MTN, they said that the contract was in my name and that I am responsible for the outstanding amount (by now it was R15000) and I should go to MTN to make payment arrangements (I've been handed over to legal). I went back to the MTN branch and explained my situation and asked them to review my situation. The lady phoned their legal department and I spoke to them, explaining again and they asked if I have the handset, which I didn't. I asked if nobody in the whole of MTN can review my situation and she said no, I should've changed the contract to my ex-husband's name. I told her I am willing to pay the amount of the notification sent to me at the beginning of Sept. I asked for an e-mail address at their legal dept where I can send an e-mail to someone at MTN. I sent a few e-mails to that e-mail address, I can see it has been read, but received no response to date. I still receive e-mail notifications and sms's to pay and phone calls from MBD Inc, but said that I want a response to my e-mail from MTN before I'll speak to anybody else or pay any amount.
