MTN service (Spy Cam) opt-in without express consent

I took out a data contract today with a new number and a few hours later, I was subscribed to the SpyCam service at R7 per day without my consent on my main mobile prepaid number. I checked using the MTN USSD code and was also opted in to all marketing and promotional communication, which I did not agree to and have opted out previously as well as having additional subscription services pending. The MTN consultant was the only person who I provided my mobile number to which means they may have somehow opted me in to the marketing and promotional services without my knowledge.

After unsubscribing, I called MTN and was told that they cannot tell me when or how I was opted in due to me already having canceled my subscription. I was told I would not receive a refund, however after citing CPA and laying out that I have not received any service I escalated to a supervisor and was told I would receive a refund within 24 hours.

I tried contacting MTN Canal Walk however their phone goes to voicemail. I think it's ********* and unprofessional of them to have changed settings on my prepaid number without my consent as this is the only possiblity I can think of. It would be too much of a coincidence that my settings were suddenly reset after taking out a separate data contract today and within hours being subscribed to multiple services.

I also find it hard to understand that my service provider, who is a part of the opt-in process, cannot tell me when or how I was opted in or what time I was opted in to the service either.

I was told that this issue would be escalated and I hope I do get some feedback explaining how this happened.
