MTN selling internet in area with no coverage and demanding R3000 cancellation fee

I took out an MTN home internet contract online after specifically confirming network coverage for my area before purchasing. MTN checked and confirmed that I had coverage, which is the only reason I proceeded with the contract.

I received the router last week Wednesday, but the service never worked from day one. After contacting MTN support, I was later informed that there is actually no coverage in my area and that I should return the router to an MTN store.

I have already paid a total of R734.40 (including prorata charges and the June fee) for a service that I have never been able to use.

Today I went to the MTN store to return the router, only to be told that I must pay approximately R3000 to cancel the contract. I do not understand how I can be expected to pay cancellation fees for a service that MTN confirmed would work in my area, when it actually does not work due to lack of coverage.

I feel this is extremely unfair and misleading. I am requesting:

* Cancellation of the contract without penalties * Confirmation that no further charges will be billed * Refund consideration for the R734.40 already paid for a non-working service

I would appreciate urgent assistance in resolving this matter fairly.
