MTN **** with No resolution
On Saturday 16 FEBRUARY 2019 I received a call at 12h05 from a person who claimed to be phoning from MTN from number +27 83 ********** 247 stating that somebody had requested a sim swop on my account. I was asked if i wanted to retract the request to which i agreed. An OTP was send to my phone on the same communication channel as all other MTN communication is sent to me VIA MTN. I had to verify the OTP with the person on the line and he apparently cancelled the request. 5 minutes passed an on the same communication channel i received sms again notifying me that 9999 MTN loyalty point were transferred to an MTN cell number being ********** 1656. i received a few more sms's until my MTN loyalty points were completely depleted. I immediately called MTN 135 to report this, but the service agent i spoke to , Zama, informed me that the MTN ***** department only opens on Monday morning ( as if MTN expects ********** to only operate during office hours). I called MTN back on Monday morning only to have my call redirected for over 2 hours to different departments and service agents until i was told that my best recourse would be to go to my nearest police station ( at this point i couldnt conceal my anointment and laughter and decided to cut the call). I approached my closest "police station" and i was told by them that that had no idea how to report such a "crime". I wonder how many other MTN client this has affected, as from the discussions i had with the MTN service agents, they seemed to be quite aware of this but didn't know who or what department in MTN could assist with the matter. I, for 1, have simply given up on perusing the matter as i know this action i took is possibly the norm for most MTN customers who have experienced the same type of '*****' . I have been a loyal MTN subscriber for over 20 years , i guess its time to re-look at other subscriber networks out there who would take the extra measures, of protecting their clients personal information more seriously.
