MTN Sales are Con Artists! Disgusted!

Received a telesales call from Thokozo from MTN sales/marketing. He quoted me information on my 4 contract and total invoice amount and said as a valuable client they would half my invoice if I took up an additional Laptop and data bundle deal. He quoted my invoice amount and then said that the new deal would be for R429 per month all-inclusive which was about 70% of my current spend. This sounded too good to be true and before I approved the debit process, I asked for the offer to be emailed to me. He put me on hold and after a long wait, his supervisor/manager picked up the call. I asked her to email me the offer and she said that due to the POPI act, they could not which is weird, because how did you get my phone number and name and MTN invoice to contact me in the first place? I said that I did not fully understand the deal and she ran through it again, but this time said that the laptop would be additional to my current bill. I asked about the 50% discount, and she said that the current bill would be unaffected. I am disgusted that MTN would try such shenanigans with any of their customers. Had I blindly accepted, I would be on the hook for a new 36-month contract. I’m a client for over 20 years and am now going to start shopping my business elsewhere. I asked for her name (given as Chaneese). Chaneese said she would investigate what was said, and I asked for the reference number for the call which was given as Ref29025. I’m disgusted at this con!
