"MTN Rip-off artists"
In June 2020 I started a data contract with MTN for R299 per month for 20 gig. From the beginning I was over charged by up to R400 extra a month for supposedly down load gaming apps. This was impossible as this data card was in a rooter only NEVER in a phone. I've spent countless hours at their head office in Constantia JHB and was parsley successful by getting some of these unauthorized charges reversed. Prior to the 11th July 2022 we attempted to extend the contract via their call center but after hanging on for more than 30 min. we gave up. On the 12th July 2022, I received a SMS: “Y’ello Your contract term has ended. Your contract is changing from R260 to R1015.265 on a month-to-month term. All promos have expired.” I immediately went to their head office in 14th avenue at 9am, (where we had to wait in a queue for 1 and half hours without the queue moving), when I enquired why 4 agents are not assisting anybody they told me to be patient. This is no wonder why the service is so poor as this is the service received at head office it speaks volume of how you can hang on the phone for more than 30 min and not get assisted. They couldn’t assist with the cancellation but instead could only send an email. They phoned me to confirm the cancellation for 7th August but just after that they sent a sms that the cancellation is for December. I called again to be told that I have signed the T&C's and if I don't like it I can give 30 day's notice. Besides the fact that I had a signed term contract with MTN and they did not notify me that the contract is coming to an end or that there were higher charges involved which we would have likely extended at the same/similar rate they chose to send the above sms. When they eventually called us back I was told they confirmed that the contract would be cancelled on the 7th August but we yet to receive a confirmation on email. I promptly received an account with the full R1015.27 to be paid by the end of July, which I dispute but would be happy to pay for the termination on 7th August at R299. It is interesting to note that MTN has a massive billboard special at their head office on the N1 for R499 for 30 gigs, this blatant display of ***** need to be corrected as they claim they have no promos on and only want to dictate and over charge an amount which is 3.5 times higher than what I was paying. This displays their arrogance to ***** money from their customers claiming the customers have no recourse as they signed T&C's which they refused to forward to us when requested. I challenge somebody at MTN to take ownership of this disgraceful overcharge to contact me and correct it. Let's see if there is still honest customer service at MTN. This exact message was send to MTN but have been told it can take up to 72 hours for them to respond.
