MTN Ridiculous Data Bill

After being assured that my bill amount on my Cell Phone Contract cannot exceed R 550.00 per month (bill limit set) MTN sent me a bill for Data Useage of R 5340.93. After complaining at MTN and numerous phone calls and queing in stores to get the problem resolved, I was told the bill limit could not be 100% accurate...... according to MTN a jump from R 550 to R 5340.93 is more or less accurate - although not 100%??? I have spent hours on the phone trying to resolve this issue and blame keeps of shifting. It even went as far as being told that I should try to recouperate my money from the consultant (who set my limit) persoanally. I find this rather bizaar.... I have all documentation and correspondence from MTN on email. I have sent these through to them with the corresponding reference numbers and dates as proof, but they are adament that I am in the wrong??? I have even asked the consultant on my last conversation "what should I have done differently to avoid this situation" and was told I was advised wrong (an err on their side) but yet MTN still refuses to understand my side of the situation. They said I should contact the Consumer Goods Council to complain. Three phone calls later I was told that the Consumer Goods Council does not handle situations like this. So once again..... wrongly advised by MTN.??? I am at the end of my teather now .... seems like MTN just steps on the little man where ever he can and can charge any rates they want.

Thank you for your post.

Thank you for your time online.

Kindly be advised that the bill limit is not 100% accurate client need to be responsible as well to monitor the usage. We have offered you a credit of R3993.71 against the account balance of R 5,897.22 you have declined the offer.

The goodwill offered credit as follows:

2017-04-01 April invoice.

Billing for data R4493.70 (vat included - the R500.00 balance bill limit set up in 2016=R3993.71.

You have mentioned to me that you have reported this to the Ombudsman they will assist you further with the outcome.

The ombudsman will require the URL report for the usage in the period the account was billed.

Kind regards,

Alice van der Merwe

Thank You for the reply and offer of credit Alice, I do have understanding for the fact that a bill limit cannot be 100% accurate, but seeing that I specifically asked for the full bill amount to be capped at R 550.00 per month and the bill after the credit is still on R 1903.51, that only gives a bill limit accuracy of +/- 28.89% , this is pretty far from "100% accurate", seeing that I have got two young boys in the house that play on my phone regulary (this is why I SPECIFICALLY asked for a bill limit of R 550.00 ) I feel that this is unfortunatly not good enough. If the bill ran over to by a couple of hundred rand - I would have understanding, but even with the credit its still R 1300.00 above my limit set. I set the Limit for a reason - to prevent exorbitant bills. Awaiting your response.
