MTN refuses to take responsibility for Debit Order mishap.

In August 2016, I app**** for a contract with MTN for an IPhone 6s plus, that was to cost me R489.00 p/m, after 2 months of smooth transactions, they started to debit money on the incorrect date or not debit money at all. since then I have visited both MTN and my bank to see if there was a problem, my bank confirmed there wasn't an issue and the debit should go through, MTN's account department on the other hand couldn't provide a reason at all as to why the debit order dates were incorrect or not taking place at all, I was under the impression, they're debiting fine. MTN couldn't provide an explanation as to why my account wasn't debited on the agreed date which was the 20th, instead they demanded that I pay a lump sum of R1800, immediately for something that wasn't even my fault to begin with, I tried to explain that I didn't have that kind of money laying around but nobody wanted to listen. I pay all my accounts in time every month, because I want a clean credit record, now I am receiving text messages from their lawyers (VVM Debt Collectors) demanding that I pay the full contract amount of R14153.88 in 24 hours, and advising that this has been recorded on my credit record. When this whole thing wasn't even my fault. If I had that kind of money I would have bought the phone cash, they were quick to approve my contract but now they refuse to acknowledge that they made a mistake.
