MTN refuses to port number

Switching to MTN has been a nightmare.

I app**** for a new contract through the website and was contacted by a call centre agent a few days later.

He went through the required questions, including whether I want to port an existing number, I rep**** yes I want to port my existing vodacom prepaid number to MTN.

He said this is no problem and when I activate my MTN sim after receiving the phone, they will help me with the porting.

After receiving the phone, I contacted MTN to activate the sim, for some reason the porting couldn't be done at the time, but she assured me that I can activate the sim and port at any time later on.

When I contacted the porting department the next day, they told me that this is not possible, and the porting should have been done before the sim was activated.

I was then given the run-around, and eventually told that the online department must fix it, because they made the mistake, and that someone will call me back. No-one has yet called me back.

It was clear that the problem was just being passed around, and that no-one was interested in helping.

If the porting can't happen, I would like to cancel the contract.
