MTN REFUSES TO CANCEL CONTRACT THAT HAS EXPIRED
I took out a 2 contract with MTN in 2022. On 14th May 2024, I called to cancel my contract and I was informed that it was scheduled for cancellation on 14th June 2024, I even received an email confirming same. To my surprise, on 27th May, I received an email informing me that my contract has ended, and I am on a month-month term with what seems to be an even higher amount. I immediately contacted the customer service line and was put through to quite a rude man who said that the email I received was simply for marketing purposes, and then sent to the billing department. The lady who was supposed to assist me also could not answer when I asked her to explain how I am on a month to month contract when I clearly requested cancellation of this contract, she sounded annoyed and decided to take me back to the man who put me through to her, I was then on hold until the call was hung up on the other end. I decided to call back again, the lady who assisted this time also said the email was only for marketing purposes, and that my last payment will be on 14th June, for the data and minutes that had already been allocated to me. I don't understand why these were allocated as I called two weeks prior, for cancellation. Now this morning, on 31st May, I logged onto the app, only to discover that I have an overdue invoice for the amount of R607, this is also much high than what I was paying for the past two years. The gentleman who assisted me with the cancellation on 14th May advised that the bill would be for a hundred and something rands, for the data and minutes, which is what I saw as I consistently monitored the app for the invoice. Lo and behold, I am now told I owe MTN over R600. This is completely unacceptable, I cannot be expected to pay this amount, and I demand cancellation of this contract.
