MTN refuse to assist to block / de-activate SIM card
I need to de-activate / remove a prepaid MTN SIM card so that it cannot be used by a person who is in possession of the SIM - location unknown. I've spoken to two MTN agents - the last one at their RICA helpdesk ********** 422. They claim it cannot be done unless you do a SIM swop .... This is shocking bad of service by MTN. Actually zero service by MTN just wasting customers' time. I do not want to have the MTN prepaid SIM or the number associated with the SIM any more. RICA is supposed to be there to link a SIM card to individuals for crime prevention ... Why doen't MTN want to assist to prevent the unauthorised user to used that SIM ?

20 Sept 2018, 16:50No unfortunately it is not OK at all.
I do NOT want to have the MTN number any more.
I want this SIM removed from my name in the RICA register.
When you say 'business rule' I suppose you talk about MTN's business rule?
Well then it does not make sense at all
unless ....... rule made by MTN to ******* prepaid customers to pay for SIM swop which has zero value to the customer.
You can restore my and other customers' trust by providing the basic service to remove the SIM from the RICA register.
At smartcall.co.za: "SIM Deregistration What is it?
It is a prerequisite that RICA registered SIM cards be deregistered within seven day if not used by a customer."
How can MTN have a business rule that makes it impossible to meet such a statutory requirement?
Unfortunately: MTN's response does NOT create any platform to build trust on.
If that is so "I'm not your customer any more". Cheaper to port number to another network ......
