MTN Refuse SIM Swop OR PORTING during COVID-19 LOCKDOWN
I had lost my SIM at the beginning of the year when the lockdown began. With being forced to stay at home and not able to work, I, in turn, not generating any income, clients are not able to contact me as I do not have my SIM. The account is on my mothers name, who is an elderly fragile lady already fighting a rare disease "Lupus", and is not able to venture out into public areas, the MTN Branch, to sign docs for a SIM swop. Everything is linked to that number and with not being able to receive any OTP's , I was unable to sign in on many of my daily accounts and eventually resulting in a loss to my business domain, meaning the loss of my alternate form of communication with my clients as well as access to banking and other accounts as now I no longer have an email address nor do I have a mobile number, which I have had for many years. I cannot confirm any of the security protocols that were required via OTP and email and so they have been terminated. MTN refuse to issue me with a new SIM card now as there is an outstanding amount on the account which could not be paid because of not being able to work and then not having comms with clients therefore not able to generate funds from my clients. I cannot port my number either as the number is on contract and the sim is needed first in order to port the number, which I will be doing as soon as I can to Vodacom. During this pandemic we are all meant to help one another get through this and I certainly do not see MTN offering any assistance here. I am told that the outstanding amount due needs to be paid and then only a sim can be issued. I have now lost just about everything I have been trying to hold on to, including my large format printing machine that has dried up and become useless due to this covid-19 LOCKDOWN. I receive absolutely zero assistance or relief from any of these big shots that advertise they are helping SME's so I am not in a position to settle the account right away as i have not had my number to receive calls and day to day business ... I AM VERY FRUSTRATED AND ANOYED even after being a LOYAL MTN subscriber from when mobile phones were first launched back in 1994 school days. It saddens me to have to move
