MTN phishing ****: beware MTN and the ********
During the month of March, I was caught out in a phishing ****. The ******* posed an a call center agent, wanting to confirm if I had requested a sim swap. Although it seemed a little strange, what made me continue with the call was that the person on the other side of the phone already had ALL my personal information. All I had to do was to confirm the OTP, which I did. My bad. after dropping the call, I suspected that I had been ****med and I immediately reported it to MTN and cancelled my sim card. Unfortunately it was too late. At the end of April my MTN bill was R12099. I had been ****med for a little over R10000. It has taken over three weeks for MTN to reply, since going in to a branch to report the matter and almost two months since I first reported it telephonically. the short story is that they are not interested in assisting me in any way. they are taking no responsibility for breaking my trust and keeping my personal information safe. Why was it so easy for the ******* to access my information?? I have been a loyal, bill paying, customer for over 20 years and I have spent tens of thousands of Rands with them every year. through my stupidity I now realize that I do not mean anything to MTN and nor does any other MTN customer. They do not value our loyalty either. I will not be renewing my contracts with MTN in future. As my contracts reach their expiration date, I will provide them with the necessary notice and switch my business to a service provider who values my business and that of my family. As for MTN, you need a lesson in customer care. I am done with you.
