MTN persecutes victims of ********** Upgrades

My contractwas due for upgrade on the 12th of May, but I did not want to upgrade it. The process with MTN is that you have to go to the shop and ask them to cancel the contract. If you dont, they continue it (is this even legal?).

I was only able to go to the shop to cancel the contract on the 11th of June. The cancellation process takes 3 days (for whatever reason!).

However, on the 14th, I started getting smses that my contract had been upgraded. I called the call center and they said it was a ********** upgrade done somewhere in KZN. I was asked to provide a police affidavit and a certified copy of my ID, which I did. I was then given a ticket number to use when enquiring about the case.

After 18days, I called in and I was told that my query had been 'resolved'. But my happiness was short lived as the resolution was that the copies I provided were too dark and I had to resubmit the documents.

At this point, I was told that until MTN prove that I did not do the upgrade, they will continue billing my account (which they are still doing). Realising that MTN are not concerned because they are still getting their money, I explored the option to investigate the issue myself. However, MTN refused to tell me more information as to whether the ********** had copies of my ID or which branch had processed the upgrade.

It actually feels like MTN is protecting or encouraging the ***** and persecuting the customer. There is no other way to explain their handling of this case!

Maybe its punishment for trying to cancel the contract?
